Kyle Csversko of Neepawa, Man., made building a sprayer tender trailer a winter project, spec’d out to exactly match his operational needs.

Farm-built sprayer tender trailer

Manitoba farmer builds the unit that suits his operation

Not everyone has the skills, time or facilities to take on a large equipment fabrication project, but for those that do, it may be possible to build a piece of equipment that exactly meets specific on-farm needs — and do it at a lower cost than buying off the shelf. For Kyle Csversko of Neepawa, […] Read more

To increase capacity and efficiency, Jake Leguee built a rack for the field spraying trailer that can hold up to four of the 800- to 1,000-litre plastic chemical totes. The rack (or shelf) sits against the front water tank on the left side of the photo. Two totes sit on the deck of the trailer, while the other two totes are secured to the shelf above. Leguee can draw chemical from more than one tote at a time if needed to fill the sprayer tank more quickly.

Save time with spray operation efficiencies

Covering more acres in a day doesn’t mean you need to drive faster

As most farmers today agree, the field sprayer is one of the most important and perhaps one of the most used pieces of farm machinery, so with a lot of butt-time in the sprayer seat there is time to ponder ways to get more acres done in a day. If you are racing against changing […] Read more

John Deere nozzle system

How to choose the right sprayer nozzle

Do some research, but also call a specialist for advice

Under the heading “Perhaps Too Much of a Good Thing,” sprayer expert Tom Wolf says probably the biggest challenge about selecting the right nozzles for the field sprayer is having too much choice. “Finding the right nozzle is a bit of a chore simply because there is an overabundance of supply,” says Wolf. “The fact […] Read more

AGCO and a consortium of tech companies are involved in field trials of a spot-spray system they say will provide growers with a way to reduce inputs and save costs.

Are broad-acre spray applications about to go extinct?

AGCO and tech partners team up to advance spot spraying

The sight of sprayers broadly applying a constant flow of herbicide across Prairie fields may soon go the way of the dodo — at least if AGCO and its technology partners have anything to say about it. The company announced it has teamed up with Robert Bosch GmbH, BASF’s Xarvio Digital Farming Solutions and Raven […] Read more

John Deere’s upgraded model year 2022 400 and 600 series sprayers offer a new lineup of features and options.

New sprayer lineup from John Deere

The 400 and 600 series models offer new features

In March, John Deere announced its medium- and large-chassis sprayer lines would see a host of changes for the 2022 model year, along with a new model numbering system that makes them now the 400R and 600R series. Like all of Deere’s newest powered machines, the sprayers will get significant upgrades in their digital capabilities, […] Read more

John Deere’s See and Spray Select option activates an individual spray nozzle only when boom cameras detect a green, growing weed below it.

Deere launches new See and Spray Select technology

Automated spot-spray option can reduce herbicide use

It’s no surprise to farmers that herbicide use in agriculture has come under increased scrutiny by the general public in recent years. In some countries, glyphosate may soon be banned entirely, which will cause significant adjustments to cropping practices. And even in those regions where there isn’t yet a risk of losing glyphosate, weed resistance […] Read more

Improperly cleaned spray booms create a V-shaped pattern of crop damage when starting a new field requiring a different herbicide.

How recirculating booms can help slow herbicide resistance

AGCO demonstrates value of new sprayer tech with crop tour

Just a few years ago, herbicide resistance in weeds was something that seemed like a distant concern, something occurring elsewhere; however, it should be no surprise to anyone that today the International Survey of Herbicide-Resistant Weeds, which is a collaborative effort between weed scientists in more than 80 countries, says that is no longer true. At the 2016 edition of Canada’s Farm Progress Show in Regina, Sask., Salford first showed its concept air boom applicator.

New air boom applicator from Case IH

Case IH and Salford team up to offer another option for Titan floaters

In August, Case IH, in partnership with Salford Group, introduced the FA 1030 air boom applicator, which is now available directly through Case IH on the Titan 4540 floater. The company says this applicator is built to carry more product, improve productivity and deal with uneven field surfaces. By July 2021, Case IH expects to […] Read more
