Ex-Imperial Oil CEO joins Viterra board

Canada’s largest grain handling company has named the now-retired CEO of Imperial Oil to its board of directors.

Tim Hearn, who had been the oil company’s CEO from 2002 until earlier this year, joins Viterra’s board effective immediately and will also sit on its audit committee, Regina-based Viterra announced Thursday.

Hearn, who was born in Regina and graduated from the University of Manitoba, had worked for Exxon Corp. and Exxon Mobil for 10 years, in a number of executive and management positions in the U.S. and Singapore. The last of those was as Exxon’s vice-president of human resources, both before and after its 1999 merger with Mobil Corp.

Hearn, who’s also a board member with the Royal Bank of Canada and has chaired the board of the C.D. Howe Institute, also co-chairs a multi-year fundraising campaign for the University of Alberta and chairs a campaign for Toronto’s Tyndale University College.
