Stellantis’ battery plans take shape in Italy, Canada

LG and Stellantis set up j.v. for Windsor gigafactory

Milan/Ottawa | Reuters — Stellantis took significant steps in its battery production plans in Europe and North America on Wednesday as carmakers race to meet rising demand for electric vehicles. The maker of Ram, Dodge, Chrysler, Fiat and Jeep vehicles said its Automotive Cells Co. (ACC) joint venture with Mercedes-Benz and TotalEnergies would build a […] Read more

Taking the time to make a few changes before hitting the field at seeding time can help plump up your piggy bank.

Sask. producer takes a ‘tip-to-tail’ look at seeding efficiencies

Saskatchewan farmer (and former researcher) says small changes can lead to savings over time

Buying a new piece of seeding equipment that promises better efficiency can work for farmers, but don’t forget the small, unsexy things that can help drive efficiency gains and incrementally save you money over time. That was the message of a presentation called, “The Penny-Pincher’s Guide to Seeding Efficiency,” delivered by Nathan Gregg, a Paynton, […] Read more

This self-propelled sprayer from Trimble and Horsch is slated to be released in Canada later this year.

Trimble, Horsch to launch self-propelled sprayer

Various configurations and boom widths will be available

Trimble, a precision ag technology provider, is teaming up with ag equipment manufacturer Horsch to introduce a new, self-propelled crop protection sprayer. The sprayer relies on sensor data and GNSS (global navigation satellite system) to navigate around fields. While it does require an operator to be on board, the vehicle has automated steering and speed […] Read more

Will Greeneye Technology’s precision spray system soon become an option on Fendt Rogator sprayers? AGCO announced last December it has become an investor in Greeneye.

AGCO invests in Greeneye Technology

In mid-December last year, AGCO announced it had made an equity investment in Israel-based Greeneye Technology, acquiring 2.9 per cent of the young startup firm that has begun offering retrofit precision-spraying technology. The Greeneye system is based on artificial intelligence and deep machine learning, which enables intelligent, real-time decisions in the field that can significantly […] Read more

Weeds can be detected and sprayed in a growing crop with this green-on-green technology.

Retrofit spot-spraying system hits the market

Greeneye Technology’s system turns existing sprayers into smart machines

What if it was possible to retrofit an existing sprayer with a system that reduces the amount of herbicide needed to spray a crop by about 78 per cent, and it still achieved the same level of weed management as a broadcast application? And what if it was possible to see a payback on the […] Read more

GM ramps up EV push with plans to make battery materials in Canada

Automaker and BASF both plan CAM plants at Becancour

Reuters — General Motors and South Korea’s POSCO Chemical will build a $400 million facility to produce battery materials in Canada as the carmaker ramps up plans to produce mainly electric vehicles (EVs) in the future, the companies said Monday. The plant will produce cathode active material (CAM) for vehicle batteries at Becancour, Que. Cathodes […] Read more

The 70-foot-wide Seed Hawk air drill at Bailla Farms has a 980-bushel tank with four compartments. With sectional controls every 10 feet across the width of the drill, it is very responsive to variable-rate seed and fertilizer placement as it passes over 10 different production zones in each field.

Do SWAT Maps deliver?

Farmers say layered information allows them to apply inputs where they do the most good

Colin Rosengren and Kelly Baillargeon farm on almost opposite ends of Saskatchewan, yet they have the same thinking when it comes to what they expect from precision farming and variable-rate technology (VRT). Rosengren owns Rosengren Farms along with family members at Midale, in southeast Saskatchewan, while about 650 kilometres to the northwest, Baillargeon owns Bailla […] Read more

This photo of a field sprayer outfitted with two cameras on the boom is an example of a new service being introduced by Croptimistic Technology this year called SWAT Cams. As the sprayer travels over the crop, the cameras will take pictures every 50 feet. The images are analyzed by software and used to show the amount of biomass cover over every acre. The variation in ground cover will be of value in making management decisions about increasing or decreasing inputs, such as seeding and fertility rates.

Crop pictures worth a few thousand footsteps

Croptimistic Technology, based out of Naicam, Sask., perhaps better known by its SWAT Maps brand name, is launching two new services in 2022 to make it easier and more affordable to map the soil and topography of the whole farm, and then literally view every acre of the crop during the growing season.  SWAT Cams […] Read more

A connected farm is an efficient farm

A connected farm is an efficient farm

Q & A with an expert

Q: What are the benefits of collecting data and using digital tools on my farm? A: Data. This is a word we hear a lot in agriculture, and rightly so. We are now farming in the digital age and we need to see this as the huge opportunity that it is for farming operations. Historically, […] Read more
