In my early days, rock picking was one of those jobs often delegated to the young who had fresh muscles and plenty of energy. Getting the rocks onto our home-made stone boat was hard work – particularly on a hot summer day – but it probably allowed the adults to avoid hefty chiropractor bills.
Like many things in agriculture, modern equipment has taken a burdensome task and designed a machine around it to handle the heavy lifting. In this case, it’s the Scorpio 550 rock picker from Elho. At Ag in Motion last week, I took in the rock picking demonstration and spoke with Marv Gingrich with Elho Canada about what this machine is capable of.
