The new 2150S Early Riser planter from Case IH uses a split-row frame design and offers spacings of 15, 20 and 30 inches.

In early February, Case IH announced it has added a new model to its line of Early Riser planters, the 2150S, which uses a split-row design. The two-row frame allows for improved trash clearance in no-till fields, giving the machine up to 50 inches of row unit offset, depending on planting row width.

According to the brand, studies show narrow row planting offers improved agronomic benefits, such as increased yields and faster-developing crop canopies for weed control. And there is the additional benefit of minimizing soil erosion in tilled fields. The 2150S can drop seed in rows as close as 15 or 20 inches. For wider row spacing, an operator can switch between 15- and 30-inch planter settings right from the tractor cab with no manual lifting of row units or tools required.

The 2150S Early Riser front-fold trailing planter comes in a range of configurations, including 23, 24, 31 or 32 rows with 15-inch spacing, or 24 rows with 20-inch spacing.

A mounted 525-gallon liquid fertilizer tank is available as an option. A 2150S can also be ordered with tow-behind fertilizer cart. The liquid fertilizer system is designed to deliver accurate application rates at a broad range of speeds with multiple factory-installed application options, including frame-mounted coulters and in-furrow options.

There are two 50-bushel tanks for a total of 100 bushels of on-board seed capacity, and they can be equipped with optional individual tank scales.

The 2150S was engineered to provide good ground-following characteristics with a wing flex of plus or minus 15 degrees combined with up to eight inches of row unit travel. This should be enough to ensure the row units keep good contact with the soil, even in uneven terrain. Optional hydraulic wing downforce helps maintain even seed depth control across the entire machine.

The front-fold frame design on the 2150S provides for a pretty respectable transport width of just 13 feet. An on-screen, step-by-step folding and unfolding system provides what the brand says is a simplified process for an operator.

550 air drill

Along with the new Early Riser planter, Case IH introduced the new Precision Disc 550 air drill, which will also be available for spring 2023.

The row units on the new 550 drill maintain the brand’s parallel-link design, but they offer some new features to boost performance. Among them is a new closing system with indexable angle adjustments for improved seed trench closing, in most conditions — and it can work in both conventional and no-till operations. Angle adjustments can be indexed from zero to 13 degrees. Additionally, there is a range of gauge wheel widths and styles to accommodate different field and crop conditions.

A variable down-pressure spring holds each row unit in contact with the ground, while a forward-facing seed tube helps minimize seed bounce. Plus, operators can adjust to changing field conditions on the go with standard in-cab hydraulic down-pressure control.

To help reduce plugging in muddy conditions, the brand now offers gauge wheel options with an open-spoke design. The 4.5-inch version works best in conventional tillage conditions, while a three-inch option is available for tougher, no-till conditions. Additionally, a new seed trench scraper is available to cleanly cut the seed trench.

The Precision Disk 550T air drill offers an on-board tank capacity of up to 140 bushels, plus high-flotation tire options.

Enhanced auto calibration check software verifies seeding rate settings by using scale feedback. A stationary calibration package comes standard with the drill, allowing operators to perform checks before heading out to the field. An in-tank camera helps monitor tank fill and a rear-view camera helps operators safely transport.
