Make A Cake In A Mug? In Three Minutes?

Published: March 2, 2009

Recently, I received an e-mail from my friend Heather. It was how to cook a chocolate cake in a mug. I know she hates chocolate and she knows I love it. What a good friend! Cook a cake in a mug and microwave for three minutes? Hmmm. OK. Why not? I printed off a copy and began to search my pantry for the ingredients.

My daughter Katie had a friend over, so the three of us decided to give it a try. Within minutes we had our batter ready and three minutes later the microwave was beeping, telling us it was done. It smelled delicious.

Great recipes rely on timely fall resource management

The girls thought adding marshmallows on top was a good idea.

If you want a fun, easy and fast desert to make with your kids, this is it.

3-MINUTE CHOCOLATE MUG CAKE

4 tbsp. flour

3 tbsp. sugar

1 tbsp. cocoa

1 tbsp. hot chocolate mix

1 egg

3 tbsp. milk

3 tbsp. oil

3 tbsp. chocolate chips AND/OR broken pieces of chocolate bar OR marshmallows (highly optional but very yummy)

Small splash of vanilla extract 1 large coffee mug

Put all the dry ingredients together in a large mug and mix well. Add the egg and mix thoroughly. Pour in the milk, vanilla extract, oil and mix again. Put your mug in the microwave and cook for 3 minutes at 1,000 watts.

While the cake is baking, it will rise above the mug. Don’t panic. Let the cake and mug cool down for a few minutes before placing it on a plate upside down. It may slide out completely but it may come out in two pieces.

Enjoy!
