As I write this, there are pitifully few shopping days left until the big day. Christmas, I mean. That’s a big problem for procrastinators, like me. If you haven’t ticked off everyone on your need-to-buy-gifts-for list (I don’t mean it that way) you’ll need to get cracking. So I should probably cut out of here early today and head for the mall.
If heading to the mall means a two-hour drive from your part of the world, you could turn to the internet or a local machinery dealership for ideas.
A couple of issues back in the print edition of Grainews, we reported on how Winnipeg-based Versatile has ramped up its presence in the world of collector die-cast models along with increasing its line of general brand swag. It changed the merchandise section of its website at www.versatile-ag.com to make ordering directly from the company easier.
If memory serves me correctly, New Holland updated its merchandise website about a year ago too. And, of course, it seems like it’s possible to buy John Deere branded merchandise of almost any kind almost anywhere.
I don’t think you can go wrong with farm equipment models or brand swag as presents for almost anyone. But that advice and $2 will get you a coffee at most reputable coffee shops. So don’t blame me if you go wrong here.
Speaking of coffee, there are always gift certificates from Tim Hortons or Starbucks. And if I’m on your Christmas gift list, either of those will work just fine. (I’m just trying to be helpful here if you’re suffering from gift buyer’s block.)
But getting back to brand swag, a couple of days ago Adam Reid, marketing manager at Versatile, contacted me to point out the company had once again added to its line of products that will appeal to kids.
“Last summer we were approached by a manufacturer of building blocks (compatible with Lego). They offered to create a custom set of building blocks for Versatile and we jumped at the chance. We provided images and drawings of the Versatile 4WD and they developed the prototype kit.”
That kit and another are now available from brand dealers until the end of the year. After that, they’ll be available online directly through Versatile’s online store.
Well, I’ve spent enough time at the computer today, my wife’s away doing something, so it’s a prefect time to go a browse for those just-right presents. Hopefully, you and I both will pick the right ones.
From all of us at Grainews, have a very merry Christmas and a happy new year.
