Tattle Systems monitors fuel levels

Remote software tracks fuel usage

Tattle Systems allows producers to monitor pressurized
and liquid fuel tank levels remotely.

Keeping track of on-farm fuel storage tank levels, especially during busy seasons, can be easy to forget. And nothing shuts down field operations or grain bin dryers faster than running out of fuel. An automated monitoring system can be a big help, ensuring tanks stay full.

At the Ag in Motion farm show in Langham, Sask., in July, North Star Systems displayed its Tattle Systems, which is designed to monitor liquid and propane fuel tank levels. It can be used on the farm or in other commercial applications.

“What we have is a hardware and software solution,” said Mackenzie Chrun, account manager for North Star Systems. “It’s a combination of the two, we call it Tattle Systems.

“The Tattle sits on top of the tank. It has solar panels and a backup battery in it. We have pressure sensors for pressurized tanks or a float arm with the remote-ready dial. We connect the sensor to our Tattle. Once we calibrate the Tattle by putting in tank dimensions and how much is currently in the tank, it syncs up to a mobile device or desktop. And you’re able to monitor your tank levels.”

Tank levels checked anytime, anywhere

The Tattle system updates every hour, so current tank levels can be checked anytime from anywhere. And a user can set a minimum level, which will cause Tattle to send a low-level alert by text or email.

“Your fuel provider could get a low-level alert and just go and fill,” said Churn. “That way everyone is getting exactly what they need at the time they need it.”

Producers need to make a one-time purchase of the hardware, and one Tattle system is required for each tank. The equipment comes with a three-year warranty. And the software is purchased on an annual subscription basis. But as many users as are necessary can be assigned to a single subscription, so several digital devices can be linked to a single subscription.

“You can log in on your phone or laptop from anywhere,” she added. “But they work together, so you’re only paying for one subscription annually. We have unlimited users. If you wanted to give access to a customer or fuel provider, you’re able to give everybody access.”

The Tattle system also has historical reporting features to track fuel usage and assist with farm management.

Says Chrun, “It’s that peace of mind knowing what’s in your tank at all times.”
