AGCO introduces the new four-model 6S line of tractors under the Massey Ferguson brand.

Last August, AGCO’s Massey Ferguson brand pulled the wraps off of two new tractor series, the 8S and smaller 5S models. In February, the brand revealed the latest group of tractors to join those new series, the 6S line. AGCO said these new tractor lines are based on a complete rethinking of its engineering from the ground up, giving the new models some significant design differences compared with their predecessors.

The 6S line includes four models offering 145, 155, 165 and 180 horsepower. They get that muscle from a four-cylinder, 4.9-litre AGCO Power diesel engine. The brand claims it’s the only one on the market now that is pulling 180 ponies from a four-cylinder engine.

CNH plans for “more than 15 new tractor launches, 10 combine launches, 19 crop production launches and over 30 precision technology releases between now and the end of 2027.”

“The new MF 6S series offers the power of a six-cylinder with the compact footprint and agility of a four-cylinder, giving busy producers the ideal machine to get the job done quickly and efficiently,” says Darren Parker, vice-president of Massey Ferguson North America.

Buyers get their choice of two transmission options. First there’s the Dyna-6 transmission, which offers 24 forward and reverse speeds with a maximum road speed of 31 miles per hour (50 kilometres per hour). Second is the Dyna-VT continuously variable transmission. It allows operators to select an exact working speed without changing engine r.p.m. The Dyna-VT is also available with a 50-gallon-per-minute (190 litres per minute), load-sensing hydraulic system.

Like the 8S and 5S, AGCO says the 6S is designed to pack a lot of power into a small package, making them ideal general purpose machines for hay growers or livestock producers. With its four-cylinder diesel, the brand claims the 6S models weigh in at about 900 pounds (408 kilograms) less than a comparable six-cylinder tractor, helping reduce field compaction. But they still get an impressive three-point hitch lift capacity of 21,164 pounds (9,600 kilograms).

Factory-installed front-end loaders get a lift capacity of 5,070 pounds (2,300 kilograms) and can lift to a height of 13 feet (3.96 metres).

The new 6S models made their North American debut at the National Farm Machinery Show in Louisville, Ky., in mid-February.
