A Case So Nice, He Bought It Twice

Bob Hauswirth of Carseland, Alta., saw our invitation to submit his favourite machine for a mention inGrainewswhen he was online at www.grainews.ca. He has a tractor on his farm that has more than earned his respect over the years. “Without a doubt my favourite machine is a 930 Case tractor,” he writes. “I have had two of them and still have both.”

The first 930 to arrive on the farm was asked to go above and beyond the normal call of duty during one harvest season, and it performed admirably. “The first was a hand-clutch model that we used on a PTO combine but found the tractor not to have a slow enough low gear. We used it anyway and simply slipped the clutch to slow down. These tractors had clutches that run in oil and we found no unacceptable wear from using the clutch this way.”

Croptimistic’s SWAT Cam maps one million acres in Western Canada

Croptimistic’s SWAT Cam has mapped more than one million acres, using sprayer-mounted cameras to generate crop and weed maps that support in-season analysis and future management decisions.

“The picture is of my second 930 tractor, a foot-clutch model, my favourite,” he continues. “These 930 tractors were bulletproof.” This tractor was the second in command in the farm fleet for many years, doing mostly seeding and harrowing. Bob’s larger 2670 still takes care of most of the heavy tillage work.

Although most of Bob’s land is now farmed by a custom operator, the 930 in the picture still sees occasional work pulling a seed drill and discs on smaller fields large equipment just can’t get into.
