Taking advantage of the continually growing capacities of harvesting equipment is one way many producers have improved efficiency with minimum manpower. Included in that trend of ever-increasing machine size is grain carts. And last October, Elmer’s Manufacturing announced it had added a new model to the upper end of its grain cart model range, the 2,300-bushel Haulmaster 2300.
It offers 300 bushels more capacity than the brand’s previous flagship model, the 2000. That additional 13 per cent load can make a big difference to harvest operations, according to the company. And the new cart is the direct result of feedback from the brand’s customers.

Swather-sprayer retrofit a clever solution to winter wheat’s tight planting window
A system to spray pre-seed herbicide at the same time as swathing isn’t just a clever labour-saver, but could help overcome one of the biggest obstacles keeping Prairie farmers out of winter wheat: the timing.
“Producers wanted a grain cart that was capable of filling a (super-B) truck while harvesting high-volume crops,” said the company in a press release.
The Haulmaster 2300 cart comes with all of the standard features previously included in Elmer’s other models, including the direct-drive Powermaster gearbox, which the brand says improves driveline efficiency and eliminates the need for belts, drive chains and a lower sump. The 2300 also gets the large inspection windows on the front and rear to allow operators to see into the hopper. And for anyone who likes to keep the farm fleet all one colour, the Haulmaster 2300 can be ordered in any one of five different colours. And buyers can specify a left-hand or right-hand discharge auger.
There’s a high-tech component to the brand’s grain carts as well. The Haulmaster 2300 can be paired with the brand’s Haulmaster Connect wireless scale system and Haulmaster Pro hydraulic joystick control system. Paired together, they allow for features such as Auto Gate, which will close the auger gates once the desired truck weight is achieved. As well, operators can double-tap the screen to fold and unfold the auger. Haulmaster Connect also offers a data management program to track unloads from different fields or bins. The Connect External Display lets the cart weight be seen from a combine cab, too.
The Haulmaster 2300 rides on the brand’s “high-capacity” undercarriage. To meet the increased load demands required to haul 2,300 bushels of grain, the company says it designed a high-capacity undercarriage, including the mainframe, tracks and hitch. The 2300 uses a low-maintenance track system. And the oil bath hubs have a minimal number of grease points, eliminating the need for an auto greaser. The tracks are tensioned hydraulically, which minimizes wear and allows for better tracking. The mid rollers are 16 inches in diameter. That allows for an increased ground contact area and reduces high-pressure ground contact points. According to the company, the larger mid rollers make 25 per cent fewer revolutions when compared with the competition.
This cart became available for customer orders from Elmer’s dealers last October with deliveries available for harvest 2022.
