The manager of Saskatchewan’s provincial Food Industry Development Centre next month becomes executive director of the Saskatchewan Canola Development Commission.
Catherine Folkersen takes the new post starting July 28, the SCDC said in a release Tuesday.
Raised in Ontario but with family roots at Bruno, Sask., Folkersen worked in the University of Saskatchewan’s department of food science and horticultural science before joining the food development centre in 2004. The centre plays a leadership role in food product commercialization as well as in training for the food industry in Saskatchewan, the SCDC said.
In her duties with the food centre, Folkersen is also chair of Thomson Meats, a federally inspected meat plant at Melfort, Sask. that operates the Saskatchewan Toll Processing Centre (STPC), through which it provides toll processing services to organizations that wish to enter federally regulated markets, primarily with cooked product.
The farmer-directed, levy-funded SCDC represents Saskatchewan canola producers on matters of research, market development and communication activities.
