Yield data collected at five sites from this year’s winter wheat harvest in Manitoba are now available for farmers to review.
The Manitoba Crop Variety Evaluation Team (MCVET) is publishing yield data collected at five sites and updated variety descriptions that include two new registered varieties, Emerson and AAC Gateway.
Additional site data, along with long-term yield data and protein data incorporating all the 2013 results, will be available in December in Seed Manitoba 2014.
Data accumulated over several sites in a single year must always be viewed with caution, the provincial government notes. Varieties that excel under one set of environmental conditions may not perform as well under the next year’s conditions.
Furthermore, Emerson and AAC Gateway were tested for the first time in 2012-13, so additional caution must be exercised when evaluating the performance of these two varieties with the limited dataset.
The new yield data are posted on CropChatter, a forum where farmers and public and private agronomists can share the latest information on crop management in Manitoba. Producers are invited to submit questions to the site.
