Protecting Pollinators on the Farm

Bees are vitally important to the sustainability of agriculture. At least one third of the human food supply from crops and plants depends on insect pollination, most of which is performed by bees. The estimated value of their contribution to Canadian agriculture alone is over $3 billion.1

We all have a role to play in protecting the health and well-being of pollinators. Following Best Management Practices (BMPs) will help maximize the benefits of seed treatments while also protecting bees around farm operations. Specific bee health BMPs have been developed for pre-planting, during and after planting:

  • Pre-planting – Communication. Proper storage and handling. Equipment check.
  • During and after planting – Minimizing dust is key. Proper clean-up is important too.
As always, when handling any crop protection product, it is important to start by reading and following all label directions.
