Winnipeg, March 29 – Following are a few highlights in the Canadian and world pulse markets on Tuesday, March 29.

– Pigeon pea prices should stay above US$1,000 per tonne due to consecutive production shortfalls in India, said Mike Jubinville of ProFarmer Canada.

– Westerly winds have caused excess dryness in India’s Nawada district, according to a report in The Times of India. The wind has apparently caused chickpea crops to shrivel and dry up prematurely.

– Australia’s chickpea production rose from 555,000 tonnes in 2014/15 to just under a million tonnes in 2015/16, according to data from the Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics and Sciences.

– Laird #1 lentils are attracting bids between 69 to 80 cents (Canadian) per pound at elevators across Western Canada, according to the Prairie Ag Hotwire.
