Pulses: Canadian pulse exports dry up

Winnipeg, April 8 (CNS Canada) – Following are a few highlights in the Canadian and world pulse markets on Friday, April 8.

– Canadian pea and lentil exports were almost non-existent during the week ended April 3, according to the latest Canadian Grain Commission data. Only 1,000 tonnes of peas and 100 tonnes of lentils left the country during the week. However, movement of both pulse crops is still running well ahead of the year ago pace.

– Green pea prices in the C$9.00 to C$9.75 per bushel range are being reported in Western Canada. Meanwhile, top end yellow peas are going for as much as C$13.50 per bushel in some locations. Red lentil bids of 51 cents per pound now being reported in some locations. Meanwhile, number two large green lentils are hitting prices as high as 75 cents and number ones have topped 80 cents at some locations.

– Chickpea prices in Western Canada also remain strong, with large caliber Kabulis’s trading as high as 47 cents per pound.
