Winnipeg, Feb. 8 (CNS Canada) – Following are a few highlights in the Canadian and world pulse markets on Monday, February 8.
– Canada exported 91,300 tonnes of peas during the week ended January 31, bringing total exports of the pulse crop during the marketing-year-to-date to 1.635 million tonnes, according to the latest data from the Canadian Grain Commission. That’s up by nearly 200,000 tonnes from the same point the previous year.
– Canadian lentil exports are also strong, with exported 541,800 tonnes exported to date, according to the CGC. That’s well ahead of the 330,600 tonnes exported during the same timeframe the previous year.

– Much needed rain and snow was reported in dry areas of India’s northern state of Himachal over the weekend, which should help the rabi crops there, according to agriculture officials in the region.
– Green pea prices in the C$9.00 to C$9.75 per bushel range are being reported in Western Canada. Meanwhile, yellow peas are also strong, with bids as high as C$13.90 per bushel now reported in some locations. Red lentil bids as high as 54 cents per pound are being reported in some locations, while number two large green lentils are now hitting prices as high as 71 cents and number ones have topped 76 cents at some locations.
– Chickpea prices in Western Canada also remain strong, with large caliber Kabulis’s trading as high as 46 cents per pound.
