Western Star trucks, then and now

As a brand, Western Star began in 1967 as a specialty, heavy-duty model for the logging and oilfield industries. Now, the brand, along with Freightliner, is owned by Daimler Trucks North America, and the company says Western Star is currently positioned in the market as a premium marquee, with individuals, small and medium fleets as the target buyers. Today, more than a few used Stars have found homes in farm equipment fleets after a career in long-haul and other duties.

The ad above for White Western Star trucks from the late 1960s shows the importance buyers placed on easy serviceability.
