We’ve written before in these pages about Power Pin, the southeastern Saskatchewan company that makes hitch systems for farm tractors and other heavy off-road equipment as well as on-road use.

A few weeks ago the company announced it’s been acquired by S3 Group, another Saskatchewan company whose subsidiaries include blower and aeration fan maker S3 Air Systems, of Swift Current, Sask.; Delta Harrows, of Shenandoah, Iowa; and air-assisted harvest system maker AWS Airbar, of Mitchell, Ont., among others.

Power Pin, which was set up by Brian Olson at Fort Qu’Appelle, Sask. in 1989, makes standardized hitch systems with a reputation for ease of use — and for user safety, since operators of tractors or towing vehicles don’t have to leave their seats to complete the hitching process.

New high-spec utility tractors coming from New Holland

New Holland wants its newest PowerStar utility tractors, the 110 and 120, to provide that segment’s versatility but with the sorts of power, technology and operator comfort farmers see in “production-class” ag tractors.

Power Pin today bills itself as “the world’s largest supplier of tractor implement drawbar hitching components,” as it supplies about 250,000 drawbar hitching parts per year to the farm equipment sector. Its catalogue today includes the AB (articulating ball) hitch shown above.

Fourteen tractor manufacturing plants today use the company’s drawpin hitches; its past customers have included Agco, Claas, Caterpillar, CNH, Deere, JCB and Versatile.

Neither company has publicly put a dollar figure on the sale price.

In a release, Swift Current-based S3’s CEO Richelle Andreas praised Power Pin for its “culture of innovation, customer responsiveness, and the development of world-class products that improve efficiency — and most importantly, save lives.”
