Making the Grade with Sunflowers
Morgan Cott, Agronomy Extension Specialist – Special Crops with the Manitoba Crop Alliance will provide sunflower production tips for quality and yield. Sunflowers are a minimally processed commodity, so to allow the seed to remain as natural as possible when sold to consumers, quality should be ideal.
This is a great challenge to sunflower producers due to limited pesticide options when weed, insects or diseases are a concern. Producers are also in a fight against time and the environment to achieve a successful harvest, so sunflower production is not for the faint of heart.
This presentation will discuss all these factors that lead to the success or demise of a sunflower crop in any growing season and how a producer can set him/herself up for greatest success and high-quality grain and yields.
PLUS, MarketsFarm expert Bruce Burnett will provide a market and weather outlook for the sunflowers complex.
