  • The United Nations Security Council is expected to debate the legality and implications of the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro by the United States. The Trump administration justified their actions over the weekend with criminal charges, accusing Maduro of narco-terrorism and drug trafficking. The U.S. has a veto on the Security Council. Maduro and his wife are expected to appear before a judge in New York today. In a social media post, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney “affirmed Canada’s support for a peaceful, Venezuelan-led transition of power — one that respects the democratic will of the Venezuelan people.”
