– Former United States President Donald Trump was wounded in an attempt on his life at his campaign rally in Butler, Pa. on Saturday. Trump was speaking to a crowd of supporters when loud gunshots were heard. While one spectator was killed and two more were critically injured, one of the bullets appeared to cut Trump’s right ear. The Secret Service escorted Trump off the stage after the incident, with the former president raising his fist in the air to the delight of supporters. Thomas Matthew Crooks, a 20-year-old man from nearby Bethel Park, Pa., was named as the suspected shooter killed by a Secret Service sniper. An “AR-style” rifle was found beside Crooks, approximately 150 metres from the stage where Trump spoke, and bomb-making supplies were later found in Crooks’ car and residence. U.S. and world leaders of all political stripes, including President Joe Biden, denounced the shooting. Trump will be in Milwaukee tonight at the Republican National Convention where he will announce his vice-presidential running-mate.
