– Israel launched a large-scale military operation in the West Bank early Wednesday morning, killing 10 Palestinian militants and sealing the city of Jenin. Israel said its intention was to uncover militants to prevent attacks on its citizens. However, Palestinians fear that citizens could be displaces as the war broadens. Five suspected militants were also arrested by Israeli forces in a series of raids. The governor of Jenin, Kamal Abu al-Rub, said Israeli forces have surrounded the city, blocking access to entry and exit points as well as hospitals.

– Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) beat analysts’ profit estimates, earning C$3.27 per share on an adjusted basis in the fiscal third quarter, exceeding the average estimate of C$2.97 in a Bloomberg survey. RBC’s Canadian personal and commercial banking unit posted net income of C$2.5 billion in Q3, up 17 per cent from last year. Provisions for potential credit losses were C$659 million, less than the C$921 million forecasted. On Sept. 1, RBC’s Canadian personal and commercial banking units will split into two reporting lines.
– Former United States president and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump will face a revised indictment in Washington, D.C., accusing him of trying to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election. U.S. Special Counsel Jack Smith obtained the indictment on Tuesday, which narrows its focus on Trump as a candidate rather than being president. In June, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled former presidents have broad immunity from criminal prosecution.
– The 2024 Paralympic Games begin in Paris on Wednesday and runs until Sept. 8, featuring approximately 4,400 athletes from 182 delegations as well as 549 events in 22 sports. Canada will send 126 athletes to compete, with wheelchair basketball player Patrick Anderson and swimmer Katarina Roxon carrying the flag in the Opening Ceremony.
