- Canadian manufacturing sales increased by 1.2 per cent in May, hitting C$72.9 billion, according to a report from Statistics Canada. Chemical products and motor vehicles were both up by 4.8 per cent during the month, with machinery posting a 4.2 per cent increase. Total sales in the country were up by 0.2 per cent annually.
- India’s space agency launched a rocket Friday that will attempt to land a spacecraft on the south pole of the moon. The lunar landing, expected around Aug. 23, would mark a first for the country and advance India as a major player in outer space. Only the United States, Russia, and China have landed spacecraft on the moon’s surface, with none ever near the lunar south pole.
