Global Markets: Canadian building permits down in June

  • The value of building permits issued in Canada in June came in at C$9.9 billion, which was down by 13.9 per cent from the previous month, according to a report from Statistics Canada. Decreases were reported in 11 of 13 provinces and territories, with only Nunavut and Prince Edward Island posting increases.

 

  • A forest fire just north of Athens, Greece triggered evacuation orders as firefighters worked to contain the blaze.

 

  • France, Germany and Britain issued a joint statement Monday endorsing efforts led by the United States for a ceasefire in Gaza. The statement also called for Iran and its allies to refrain from any retaliatory attacks. The call came as Israeli forces continued to press their offensive operations in the Palestinian enclave.
