- United States President Joe Biden addressed the nation Wednesday evening, stating that he won’t resign the presidency after ending his re-election campaign on Sunday. Biden said that his decision to drop out of the race was to save U.S. democracy and that it’s “the best way to unite our nation.” Vice-President Kamala Harris is now the presumptive candidate for the Democrats, who will gather at the party’s convention in Chicago next month.

- Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke to the U.S. Congress on Wednesday as dozens of Democrat lawmakers boycotted his speech. Netanyahu outlined Israel’s post-war plans for Gaza, stated that Israel wasn’t responsible for the deaths of more than 39,000 Palestinian civilians, and said more Israeli hostages held by Hamas will soon be released. Bereft of evidence, the Israeli PM lambasted the absent Democrats and protestors outside the Capitol building of being funded by Iran.
- Firefighters in Alberta continued their battle on Thursday against a wildfire that reached Jasper yesterday. Among their efforts was to protect the newly expanded Trans Mountain Pipeline which can move up to 890,000 barrels of crude oil per day to Vancouver. Reports said there were 176 wildfires throughout Alberta plus 433 in British Columbia.
- The 2024 Summer Olympic Games will officially begin Friday in Paris amid tight security. However, some of the sports already started competition on Wednesday. Earlier this week, Canadian women’s soccer head coach Bev Priestman announced she will step aside from Canada’s game against New Zealand after an aerial drone was used to spy on another team’s practice.
