Global markets: Belgian officials discuss CETA

CETA COULD STILL GO THROUGH ON THURSDAY
A trade deal between the European Union and Canada could still go through, despite a hold-up from Belgium, according to reports on Wednesday.

Belgian officials are entering a second day of talks about the future of CETA, reports say, ahead of an anticipated meeting between Canadian and European officials on Thursday.

CANADIAN JOB VACANCIES DECLINE FROM YEAR-AGO

Compared with the second quarter of 2015, the number of job vacancies declined by 45,000, down 10.3 per cent, and the job vacancy rate decreased by 0.3 percentage points, according to StatsCan.

CANADIAN RAIL FREIGHT VOLUME DOWN IN AUGUST
The volume of rail freight carried in Canada totalled 29.8 million tonnes in August, down 0.8 per cent from the same month in 2015. From August 2011 to August 2016, the total volume of rail freight carried in Canada increased 6.6 per cent, Statistics Canada said.
