Feed Grains: Ukraine’s total grains and legumes decline

Winnipeg – Following are a few highlights in the Canadian
and world feed grains markets on Tuesday, January 26.

– CBOT corn futures were slightly lower Tuesday, with the March contract down half a cent at US$3.6925 per bushel.

– Ukraine’s buckwheat harvest was half the amount it normally is. UKAgroConsult reports that in 2015 the country gathered 150,000 tonnes of buckwheat. That compares to 330,000 tonnes last year.

– Angola will start producing its own wheat flour in 2017, according to the country’s industry minister. Bernarda Martins says the future plant will have a production capacity of 1,200 tonnes. 900 tonnes of that will be flour while the rest will be bran.

– Russian corn exports to Turkey appear to be on the decline. In October to December of 2015, Turkey took in 15% less supplies than the year before, according to Blackseagrain.net.

– Ukraine’s State Statistics Committee reports that the country’s gross yield of grain and legumes in 2015 was 59.960 million tonnes. That is 6.1% less than in 2014 when the total was 63.859 million tonnes.

– Feed barley bids in the key cattle feeding area of
Lethbridge, Alberta were in the C$209 to C$214 per tonne
area as of January 22, which was relatively unchanged compared to the previous week, according to provincial reports. Feed wheat prices were in the C$222.50 to C$232 range, which were slightly higher.
