Feed Grains: French barley seedings underway

WINNIPEG, Feb. 19 (CNS Canada) – Following are a few highlights in the Canadian and world feed grains markets on Friday, February 19.

– CBOT corn futures held steady on Friday, with the March contract unchanged at US$3.6550 per bushel.

– Farmers in France are in the early stages of seeding this year’s spring crops, with about 5% of the intended barley acres in the ground to date, according to reports out of the country. The seeding pace is slightly behind the year ago level.

– Kazakhstan barley exports are running well ahead of last year’s level, with 461,300 tonnes moved during the first four months of the crop year to date. That compares with 308,600 tonnes during the September to December period in 2014/15, according to reports.

– Feed barley bids in the key cattle feeding area of Lethbridge, Alberta were in the C$214 to C$215 per tonne area as of February 12, which was up by two to three dollars compared to the previous week, according to provincial reports. Feed wheat prices were in the C$230 to C$232 range.
