Feed grains: China ups distillers’ grains imports

Winnipeg, February 25 – Following are a few highlights in the Canadian and world feed grains markets on Thursday, February 25.

– China imported 290,653 tonnes of distillers’ dried grains in January, which is more than four times the amount imported a year ago, according to reports.

– Corn futures at the Chicago Board of Trade shed about two to four cents per bushel on Thursday, as data from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) showed export sales lagging behind last year’s pace.

– Corn’s net sales of 934,400 metric tonnes for 2015/2016 were down 11 per cent from the previous week, but up ten per cent from the prior four-week average, according to the USDA.

– Delivered elevator prices for feed barley range from C$3.39 to C$3.80 per bushel in Saskatchewan, C$3.48 to C$4.00 in Manitoba, and C$3.45 to C$4.68 in Alberta, according to Prairie Ag Hotwire.

– US grain and feed exports are forecast at US$27.2 billion, down US$1.4 billion from the November forecast, the USDA said in an agricultural trade outlook released on Thursday. Strong competition will likely reduce volumes amid ample global stocks.

– The USDA expects next year US farmers will seed 90 million acres of corn, which is up 2.3 per cent from last year’s numbers.
