CNS Canada — The reopening of the St. Lawrence Seaway will be delayed by a week, with the navigation season now set to begin April 2, according to a notice from the St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corp.
Citing “careful review and consideration of factors and conditions affecting safe navigation and effective system transit,” seaway officials said the opening of the 2015 season will now take place April 2 in both the Montreal/Lake Ontario and Welland Canal sections.
The navigation season was initially set to begin March 27.
Vessel transits will be subject to weather and ice conditions, with restrictions possible until lighted navigation aids have been installed, according to the notice.
