Sask. launches spring runoff hotline

Published: March 18, 2008

Saskatchewan farmers and other residents will now be able to get current information on the state of their region’s spring runoff through a toll-free phone line.

The Saskatchewan Watershed Authority on Tuesday launched the Runoff Roundup line at 1-866-501-0888.

The line will be updated with pre-recorded messages each Tuesday, or more often as required due to changing conditions, until most of the snowpack in each region has thawed, the province said in a release.

The service will split the province into five regions from which a caller may select one, or choose to hear the overview for the entire province.

Transcripts of the Runoff Roundup updates will also be available online.

The Saskatchewan Watershed Authority also issues a monthly provincial streamflow forecast of expected flow conditions and lake levels. That forecast will be updated in April, or earlier as conditions change, the province said Tuesday.
