Quebec funds agro-environmental R&D

Published: October 22, 2007

The Quebec government has put up $2.7 million as part of a $4 million project to add research and development capability for agro-environmental goods and services at the Centre de developpement bioalimentaire du Quebec at La Pocatiere, about 90 miles northeast of Quebec City.

The investment will allow the CDBQ to buy new, specialized equipment and restructure its installations to handle such projects, the province said.

Natural Resources Minister Claude Bechard, making the announcement Monday, said the province’s prosperity rests on the development of innovative businesses that can offer value-added goods and services, and this funding will allow the centre (which already houses business incubator facilities for agri-food start-up companies) to provide a favourable environment toward developing technology to preserve the environment.
