A federal livestock research facility at Sherbrooke has granted part of its grounds for Quebec’s transport ministry to extend a ring road around the city’s south side.
Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada said Friday that it has accepted the ministry’s new planned route for the extension of Autoroute 410 past AAFC’s Dairy and Swine Research and Development Centre (DSRDC).
The centre, in the city’s Lennoxville district, is AAFC’s only facility specializing in research primarily for the Canadian dairy and swine industries. It also has responsibility for the federal Beef Research Farm at Kapuskasing in northeastern Ontario.

The route, the second phase of A-410’s southern bypass around Sherbrooke, is located near Glenday Road between the two routes that were proposed at the hearings by Quebec’s Bureau des audiences publiques sur l’environnement.
“This route will minimize the impact on DSRDC, while allowing safe operations and maintaining our ability to meet environmental obligations,” AAFC said.
“With the agreement, according to Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, there are no longer any obstacles to moving forward with phase two of the project,” said Jean-Pierre Blackburn, federal minister of state for agriculture, in a release.
