Great Lakes Grain and its part-owner, Agris Co-operative, have made a deal to buy feed company Nutreco Canada’s transfer elevator near Chatham, Ont.
The elevator at Oungah, about 10 km northwest of Chatham, is expected to be used this fall for Great Lakes Grain to receive soybeans and corn.
The buyer didn’t provide specifics on the value of the deal, other than to say it expected to close the sale by the end of this month to make the elevator available for Great Lakes Grain’s use.
Great Lakes Grain then plans to receive and transfer corn, beans and wheat from the Oungah site to other facilities it operates, Agris said Thursday.
“While not a large site, this transfer elevator provides the co-operative competitive access to the area between Chatham and Wallaceburg for grain origination and crop input sales,” Agris general manager Jim Campbell said in the co-op’s release.
Agris, headquartered in Chatham, currently has over 1,200 farmer members served by 14 sites in Essex, Kent, Elgin, Middlesex and Lambton counties.
