Final CWB payments for 2008-09 get green light

Published: December 14, 2009

Final payments to Prairie farmers for wheat, durum, malting barley and Pool B feed barley for the 2008-09 crop year will turn up in farmers’ bank accounts starting Monday, the Canadian Wheat Board said.

The CWB announced Friday that it was now issuing the final payments, which represent the remainder of cash owed to Prairie wheat and barley growers after their grain has been marketed via the board, and after operating costs are deducted.

Direct deposits are to be credited to farmers’ accounts Monday (Dec. 14), the CWB said. Farmers who get paid by cheque can expect to see their final-payment cheques in the mail by Friday (Dec. 18), the board added.

For farmers who sold No. 1 Canada Western Red Spring (CWRS) wheat (12.5 per cent protein) through the board, for example, the final payment will be $24.61 per tonne, which along with their initial payment of $263 and interim payment of $14.50 means a total payment of $302.11 per tonne ($8.22 per bushel).

No. 1 CW Amber Durum (CWAD), 12.5 per cent protein, gets a final payment of $27.18 per tonne, for a total payment of $327.98 per tonne ($10.15 per bushel).

No. 1 CW feed barley (Pool B) gets a final payment of $80.15 per tonne, for a total payment of $183.65 per tonne ($4 per bushel).

Select CW two-row and six-row malting barley will yield final payments of $14.05 and $14.33 per tonne, respectively, for total payments of $314.05 and $294.33 per tonne ($6.84 and $6.41 per bushel, respectively).
