Students pursuing B.Sc. degrees at the University of Guelph’s Ontario Agricultural College can now put themselves on the fast track for accreditation as professional agrologists (P.Ag.).
Under the new program, an OAC student who completes two experiential education courses in the senior years of study toward a bachelor of science in agriculture (B.Sc.(Agr.)) will get credit toward completion of the Articling Agrologist program, which is needed for the P.Ag. designation.
After completing one additional course offered through the Ontario Institute of Agrologists (OIA), a student will be qualified to apply for the P.Ag. designation without having to complete an articling period.

“Connecting the program of study at OAC to achieving a Professional Agrologist designation upon graduation will prepare the next generation of practicing professionals to serve the public interest in a competent, professional and ethical manner,” OIA registrar Terry Kingsmill said in an OAC release.
The announcement was made during OAC’s Agrologist-in-Residence (AIR) week, in which students can meet and network with practising agricultural professionals.
“We are extremely pleased to partner with OIA in providing our B.Sc.(Agr.) students with this tremendous opportunity, which will allow them to be recognized as agricultural professionals as they graduate and launch their careers in the industry,” OAC dean Rob Gordon said in the release.
