Agricorp extends insurance premium payment deadline

Ontario’s farm program delivery agency has spotted the province’s farmers an extra five days to pay their production insurance (PI) premiums.

Agricorp on Tuesday said it would extend the deadline to July 15 from July 10.

The mailing of PI invoices to producers was delayed due to the recent Canada Post strike and lockout, Agricorp said. The extension is meant “to ensure that producers have adequate time to respond.”

The federal government passed legislation Saturday to resume postal service, and Canada Post was expected to resume mail delivery Tuesday.

The legislation, introduced June 20, followed a series of rotating strikes by members of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) starting June 3, evolving into a lockout by Canada Post starting June 14.
