WINNIPEG, Oct. 1 – The Canadian dollar was stronger at midday Thursday, seeing a further bounce off of the 11-year lows hit earlier in the week.
At 12:03 CDT, the Canadian dollar was trading at US$0.7538 or US$1=C$1.3266 which compares with Wednesday’s close of US$0.7493 or US$=C$1.3345.
Gains in crude oil contributed to the firmer tone in the energy-linked Canadian dollar.
Softer-than-expected US economic data was also weighing on the US dollar, which accounted for some of the relative strength in the Canadian currency.
At midday Thursday the Toronto Stock Exchange was weaker, down 116.37 points at 12:03 CDT, to sit at 13,189.94.
