Winnipeg, Feb. 12 – The Canadian dollar was trading at a firmer level compared to its US counterpart at midday Tuesday.

At 11:59 CST Tuesday, the Canadian dollar was trading at US$0.9976, or US$1=C$1.0024, which compares with Monday’s North American close of US$0.9957, or US$=C$1.0043.

Strong commodity prices, including crude oil, gold and copper, helped to lift the value of the Canadian dollar, analysts said.

There was no significant Canadian economic data to report. Traders were looking ahead to Friday’s Canadian manufacturing data.

The Toronto Stock Exchange was up 61.01 points, or 0.48%, at 11:59 CST Tuesday, to sit at 12,809.16.
