WINNIPEG, July 19 – The Canadian dollar declined against
its American counterpart on Tuesday. Losses in crude oil and
broad-based strength in the US dollar roiled the loonie.
The Canadian dollar closed at US$0.7676 or US$1=C$1.3028,
which compares with Monday’s close of US$0.7730, or
US$1=C$1.2937.
The TSX declined with falling energy values and mixed
results from Canadian companies.
Agrium fell 2.5% while First Quantum Minerals declined
4.1%.
The S&P/TSX Composite Index dipped 7.79 points, or 0.1%, to
close at 14,524.61.
Canada’s agricultural sector performed as follows:

Agrium Incorporated———-dn $ 2.49 at $122.50
Buhler Industries————up $ 0.04 at $ 4.79
Maple Leaf Foods————-up $ 0.32 at $ 29.38
Potash Corp. of Sask———dn $ 0.29 at $ 22.31
