Canadian Financial Close: TSX advances with gold issues

WINNIPEG, July 21 – The Canadian dollar weakened against
its American counterpart on Thursday. The loonie slumped against
a basket of foreign currencies due to weaker oil prices.
The Canadian dollar closed at US$0.7642 or US$1=C$1.3086,
which compares with Wednesday’s close of US$0.7660, or
US$1=C$1.3086.
The S&P/TSX Composite Index chalked up modest gains, taking
strength from advances in gold issues.
The index climbed 32.26 points, or 0.22%, to close at
14,565.83.
Canada’s agricultural sector performed as follows:

AGT Food and Ingredients—–up $ 0.11 at $ 33.86
Agrium Incorporated———-dn $ 1.03 at $122.03
Buhler Industries————dn $ 0.03 at $ 4.76
Maple Leaf Foods————-dn $ 0.15 at $ 29.20
Potash Corp. of Sask———dn $ 0.04 at $ 22.42
