WINNIPEG, December 21 – The Canadian dollar was little changed relative to its US counterpart at close Monday, as many traders stayed on the sidelines due to the proximity of the Christmas break.
The Canadian dollar closed at US$0.7161 or US$1 = C$1.3965.
The TSX finished higher on the back of rising metal stocks. The gains were tallied even as Brent crude oil prices hit 11-year lows. Traders are keenly watching for the release of Canadian retail sales data on Wednesday.
The S&P/TSX Composite Index rose 10.08 points, or 0.08%, to 13,034.38.
