Canadian Dollar and Business Outlook: Loonie jumps above 73 U.S. cents

Greenback hits three-year lows

Glacier FarmMedia | MarketsFarm – There’s a hike in the Canadian dollar on Thursday morning, as its United States counterpart falls back.

As of 8:35 am CDT, the loonie was at US$0.7324 or US$1=C$1.3655 compared to Wednesday’s close of US$0.7280 or US$1=C$1.3737.

On the U.S. Dollar Index, the greenback lost 0.423 of a point at 96.845, hitting three-year lows.

Benchmark crude oil prices were higher on Thursday morning on cautious optimism towards the Iran-Israel ceasefire and a shifting focus to U.S. demand.

Brent crude oil rose 57 cents at US$68.25 per barrel and West Texas Intermediate climbed 70 cents at US$65.62.

The TSX/S&P Composite Index dipped 6.39 points shortly after at 26,559.93.

Gold was down US$6.10 at US$3,337.00 per ounce.
