WINNIPEG, March 28 The Canadian dollar strengthened against its US counterpart on Monday, as crude oil prices gained, and tepid US data kept the greenback from advancing against the loonie.
At 8:40 a.m. CDT, the Canadian dollar was at US$0.7582 or C$1.3189 which compares with Friday’s North American close of US$0.7553, or C$1.3240.
At 8:40 a.m. CDT, New York Mercantile crude oil futures had gained US$0.46 to sit at US$39.92 per barrel.
US consumer spending increased 0.1 per cent in February, after a 0.1 per cent decrease in January, according to reports on Monday.
The TSX was weaker in early activity, down 38.03 points at 8:40 a.m. CDT to sit at 13,320.08.
