WINNIPEG, July 20 – The Canadian dollar weakened against its
US counterpart Monday morning, as Statistics Canada released a report
on natural gas sales and pipeline transportation of crude oil and
refined petroleum products.
At 8:45 a.m. CDT the Canadian dollar was at US$0.7693 or C$1.2999
which compares with Friday’s North American close of US$0.7700, or
C$1.2987.
Natural gas sales totaled 5.6-billion cubic metres in May, down
seven per cent from May 2014. The volume of sales to the residential
sector was down 16.6 per cent, the commercial sector was down 7.9
per cent, and the industrial sector was down 4.6 per cent compared
with the same month a year earlier, Statistics Canada said in a report
on Monday.
According to StatsCan, Canadian pipelines net receipts of crude
oil and other liquefied petroleum products edged up 0.5 per cent from
the same month a year earlier to 31.7 million cubic metres in May.
The TSX was weaker in early activity, down 88.24 points at 8:45
a.m. CDT to sit at 14,642.84.
