Winnipeg, April 24 – The Canadian dollar was virtually unchanged against its US counterpart Thursday morning as investors waited to hear a speech from Bank of Canada Governor Stephen Poloz.
Poloz will give a speech on the economy in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan this afternoon.
The Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan posted quarterly net income of US$340 million or 40 cents a share. That is down from last year’s totals of $556 million or 63 cents per share in the same period last year.
Commodity prices were mixed with June crude oil up 30 cents to US$101.74 a barrel, which was supportive.
At 8:45 CDT Thursday, the Canadian dollar was at US$0.9066 or US$=C$1.1030 which compares with Wednesday’s North American close of US $0.9065, or US$=C$1.1032.
The TSX was up 26.21 points Thursday morning at 8:45 CDT, to sit at 14,559.60.
