Oct. 31 (CNS Canada) – The Canadian dollar is trading
steady this morning at US$0.7615 at 8:32 a.m. CDT, or C$1.3132.
It closed Oct. 30 at US$0.7614, or C$1.3133.
Canada’s economy marked a seventh straight month of growth
in August, making it the longest period of expansion in more
than a year, Statistics Canada reported Oct. 31. The country
posted gross domestic product growth of 0.1 per cent. The Bank
of Canada indicated that further interest rate hikes would be
needed in the future.
The S&P/TSX composite gained slightly this morning at
14,983.65, an increase of 89.15 points, or 0.6 per cent.
In the United States, stocks were opening broadly higher on
Wall Street with technology and internet stocks leading the way.
The S&P 500, Dow Jones and Nasdaq were all higher in early
trading.
West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil was trading at
US$66.09 per barrel early this morning, a decline of nine U.S.
cents.
