WINNIPEG, March 13 (CNS Canada) The Canadian dollar was slightly weaker Tuesday morning, as the currency showed little reaction to moves in the broader political sphere.

At 9:14 CDT Tuesday morning the Canadian dollar was at US$0.7783 or C$1.2848, which compares with Monday’s North American close of US$0.7794 or C$1.2830.

A shakeup in U.S. politics saw Secretary of State Rex Tillerson replaced by CIA director Mike Pompeo. The CIA job will go to deputy director Gina Haspel.

Ongoing uncertainty over the global trade situation lent a cautious tone to the financial markets, with NAFTA negotiations still ongoing.

Bank of Canada Governor Stephen Poloz is set to give a speech on labour markets later in the day that could provide some nearby direction for the currency.

The TSX was stronger at 9:14 CDT, up 61.28 points at 15,666.07.
