Vermeer has added a new inline bale wrapper to its hay and forage equipment lineup. The BW5500 is designed to cut down the wrapping time for large-volume hay growers and custom operators.
“As you increase the number of bales wrapped each year, producers should consider moving from an individual wrapper to an inline wrapper,” said Vermeer Product Manager Josh Vrieze. “Not only can you wrap bales faster using an inline wrapper, but larger operations also save on plastic.”
The BW5500 also provides for more operational control during the wrapping process, claims the company. Its digital controller allows the operator to set the desired number of wraps on bales by adjusting hydraulic flow. Its LCD screen allows the operator to track data and determine the total number of bales wrapped. There is also an optional remote control to let the operator start, stop or steer the bale wrapper remotely.

Drone tenders proliferate at Ag in Motion
The selection of drone support tenders — units built to serve as landing pad, operator station and refill platform for large agricultural drones — on display at Ag in Motion suggests more of the farmer population at large may now be seeing drone tech’s potential applications in their own fields.
The BW5500 has three 30-inch (76.2-cm) pre-stretchers, which the company says allows for faster wrapping. A soft start feature progressively starts the movement of the hoop, reducing machine wear and limiting the risk of tearing the plastic wrap on startup.
